What does food and nutrition means to the elderly?
October 11, 2009 at 1:31 pm | Posted in General Blog Post | Leave a CommentA retired German baker once said to me “A day without bread, is like a day without sunshine”. Food and food culture goes well beyond the general advice the likes of “ you should eat five portions of fruit and vegetable a day”. The baker’s point was food goes beyond nutrition; rather it is a key part of life and the social ties within it. The connecting via food and sharing of food is an effective way for elderly to build and maintain their social lives within their own generation and with younger generations.
What elderly requirements with regards to preparing and eating food have you come across in day-to-day life, and what solutions do you think could address these requirements?
